Sun is up...flea beetles are in everything, tomatoes look good, time to get stuff out in the field. Nice warm weather and finally caught the last 2 renegade pullets. They had gone ferral and were living like outlaws in the woods for the last 2 weeks. Time to get the electric fence turned on and deter the deer. Tempted to plant beans a bit early.

Let's see.....a few notes......CSA starts on May 27th. Market was good this weekend, a wee bit cold and soggy but good. The daughters did a fine job flying semi-solo at it. Need to get them organized a bit more. Snow all day yesterday on Mother's day...sheesh! Remay all over the place still. Big push to get greenhouses finished this week, as in prepping and planting the rest of the summer crops. Cool and damp the rest of this week, asparagus has really slowed down quite a bit.
Even going to cover the spinach back up for the rest of the week.

Good Morning! Hope to see all of you at market today. I am beginning to think I was invisible last week given the number of you that told me you could not find me at market. Trying to figure that one out. Just in case I am on the right side of the market about 3/4's of the way down. I will have asparagus this morning in limited amounts. Also plenty of salad, spinach, baby turnips and radishes. The soups should be real good for a day like today............
Cream of Mushroom with Asparagus. These are my mushrooms. They grow in one of my greenhouses.
Chicken and Rice soup. Plenty of roasted chicken and I am using brown rice. Just a touch of white wine.
Well gotta get them going.

Excellant weather. Hope everyone is doing well. Snow this weekend? Again? Good soup weather but please........ First market was great. Glad to see all of you. Trying to figure out how to make myself a bit more visible. Planting is going on here and there. Trying o show some restraint since last frost date is a month away still. Windbreak is planted, soups are being made, way too many eggs. Here is one for you. Did you know fleas love chickens? Made the mistake of walking into the winter "coop" and setting up seeding flats. Spent the whole day getting eaten by fleas. My legs are itchy and not looking pretty right now. No shorts for me yet............. Hey any summer soup requests from you out there? Thinking Gazpacho, Cucumber Dill Yogurt, Vichysoise, lighter brothy stuff. Here is some shameless self-promotion and marketing. You can eat my salad and spinach at almost every restaurant in Montpelier. Ask for my salad at Uncommon Market. Asparagus is in and man is it good!! Grilled with olive oil then slathered with good horseradish, lemon and butter, bit of salt. Eating way too much of it.
