A we bit foggy up here this morning. Lot's of produce coming in. Time to do some marketing and get stuff processed for the winter soup business. Could use a couple of dry days in a row just to get at the weeds and insects. All in all things are doing well. Thrips in the basil are the new challenge. At least I know what is in there now. Plenty of deliveries today, lots of cherry tomatoes, cukes, zukes.

To market, to market with a fat hen....... another fine summer day on tap. Heat has been great for everything except the lettuce. Although the deer and flea beetles have played a small part in it's demise as well. Should be a good market today. I have chanterelle mushrooms, japanese eggplant, okra, new potatoes, chilled cucumber soup, fresh pesto, broccoli, cabbage and few more things. Hopefully I will be a bit less invisible today. People still don't "see" me or the stand, a real marketing challenge that needs to be fixed. I will drop the crew off at market and then come back to try and do battle with the insects. They are having a marvelous year also. All kinds of new trouble makers on the farm this year. Oh Cherry tomatoes are in! I have a mixed pint with 8 different types. A few are a real surprise since they are not the tomato planted. Some rogue seed.
See you all there. Joe

Hey Folks....what a summer so far. A real one! So just harvested 6lbs of black currants. This means I get to make about 2 gallons of creme de cassis. My favorite liquer. Market was good today and the rain cooperated by holding off until setup and then stopped for the second half of market. Crops are coming in real well. Cherry tomatoes (8 kinds) are in, broccoli, 2lb cabbages, summer squash (3 kinds), Ratt fingerling potatoes, eggplant, okra, peppers, what a great season so far. Now if the chickens would just start laying eggs again. They are, but production is very low. Seems I am going to get after the soup business in a more serious manner. USDA gave me a bit of money to set up a commercial kitchen somewhere. Who knows maybe it's time to get back into the restaurant business again................
