Winding down one set of seasons and gearing up for the next round. Winter planting is going. Need to get quite a few more flats started for the greenhouses. This is the nerve wracking time of year where I have to gamble on what fall weather is going to be like. To warm too long causes bolting and things to come in too early. If we have a cloudy wet cool October then things are slow and late to come in. Ah the fun of it all. Well forgot to vent the greenhouses on last Saturday and cooked alot of the tomatoes. Time to tear them out anyhow. Going to keep a few late ones in just to stretch them out and get a few more BLT's in before winter. Time to break out the remay and get after things. Hope to see you at market this weekend. Thanks Joe

Hello out there. Well things are in a weird spot. Lot's to do, too much actually. Late blight in the canning tomatoes as well. Greenhouses are cranking and things are getting ploughed under and reseeded with fall/winter lettuce and spinach. Trying to process like crazy and get things put by to make soup with and just to eat this winter. Did 50 chickens yesterday plan on doing about 100 more about mid-october, mostly old stewing hens. Supposed to have a crop mob out here on Oct. 10th. I will keep you posted on that one. Lot's of planting and tidying on that day with the extra helping hands. I will be providing lunch. Not sure if it's going to be soup, salad, and bread or just what. It will be tasty though.
Summer market continues to stump me this year. Invisible?,down economy, great home gardening season and not enough wierd stuff?, Ah well really looking forward to winter this year.
Talk to ya soon, Joe

Good Morning from the top of the ridge! Dense fog and cool temperatures this morning. Here comes all those late season diseases. Finding all kinds of stuff out in the field but so far no late blight. Keep hearing about being in different gardens here and there. I just need a couple more weeks to get all my canning tomatoes in. Must.....make......spaghetti sauce.........
Pesto making is going ahead full steam and the winter squash crop looks pretty good. Thinking a bigger focus on spinach and salad next year. Tough summer this year to grow both due to the heat. Really need to get after repairs and building things. Lot's of odd ball projects that need to get done but little time. Hope to see everyone at market tomorrow. Lot's of great veggies and plenty of chilled tomato gazpacho.
Joe
