Well......snow,rain, sleet, whatever today. A very warm welcome to all you brave regular shoppers who came out to the last outdoor market of this season. The support was very much appreciated. Soup sold well and we are gearing up for the Thanksgiving and winter markets after taking a short 3 week break. Farm is doing well, life is damn hectic on a number of levels and things are taking way too long to get done around here on the same number of levels. Trying to find a restaurant space in Montpelier but not having much luck. Any of you readers have an idea? It would be most welcome. The soup business is doing well but has hit a wall as far as facility and space goes. I just can't produce enough Thai Green Curry Coconut Roasted Squash soup with my current setup. That and it would be really fun to have be in a kitchen cooking again. The search continues.......... So wood pile is calling my name and the snow is coming. Hopefully not for another 2-3 weeks though. Winter salad and spinach look real good and I should have plenty for the winter markets. Thinking about bagging up soup crostinis also. Half a cow in the freezer for making soup this winter. Plenty of chicken and a nice collection of winter squash. All in all a very good summer growing season. Well talk to y'all soon.

The last day of summer.........

Well the 22nd of Sept. was the last day of summer and the 23rd was the last pickup from my CSA this season. A warm sincere thank you to all my CSA members this year. What a great bunch of people. Nice getting to know you and I very much enjoyed the conversation each week.

The farm is winding down from summer and trying to get geared up for my winter season. Chickens are molting and the feathers are everywhere. Soup is being made, and outside beds tilled under and cover cropped. Overall a very solid summer season. Late plantings are in and under remay in high hopes that they will be ready for Thanksgiving into December. Tomatoes are almost all gone. A few more to tear out over the next week as well as the last of the basil. "Sugar Spinach" is being planted with even more being put in outdoors and all of one of my greenhouses will be devoted to it. Hope to see you at market this weekend.

Good Morning Farm Fans,

Winding down one set of seasons and gearing up for the next round. Winter planting is going. Need to get quite a few more flats started for the greenhouses. This is the nerve wracking time of year where I have to gamble on what fall weather is going to be like. To warm too long causes bolting and things to come in too early. If we have a cloudy wet cool October then things are slow and late to come in. Ah the fun of it all. Well forgot to vent the greenhouses on last Saturday and cooked alot of the tomatoes. Time to tear them out anyhow. Going to keep a few late ones in just to stretch them out and get a few more BLT's in before winter. Time to break out the remay and get after things.
