Well thought I should start writing something again on a regular basis....snowing like crazy right now and the wind is screamin through here (get it- screamin' ridge farm). So I watched Food Inc the other night. Nothing new for me but an excellant job of putting all the pieces together. The ammoniated hamburger filler was crazy. I posted an NY Times article a while back just on that item. Seems the science is not working out as expected, thus a whole lotta Ecoli in your burgers still.
Trying to get planning done, seeds bought, flats started, etc. AND I am trying to do taxes and college financial aide forms for my oldest daughter. What is impressive is they ask you to go around and count all the change you can find in the cracks of your furniture. Seems they feel that should be reported as useable income for college tuition. Ah well....

Soup business continues to keep me real busy. Having flashbacks to my restaurant days every now and then and not the good ones.

Well off I go.....

Hey Gang! Well it's nice to be sitting here with some time do some farming from the neck up instead of just my backside doing all the labor. Snowing gently outside right now and only about a foot of the stuff on the ground so far. So I just updated the website a bit with information for the 2010 CSA. I have lowered the price and will be adding soup, pesto, and marinara to the offerings, as well as continue giving eggs. It will run for 18 weeks starting on May 27th and ending on Sept. 23. I anticipate plenty of asparagus again this year.
I am currently selling to soup to Red Hen Baking Co. So stop by the Exit 9 store to have a great sandwich and some soup. They have a real nice little wine selection going on also.
Farmer's market is next Saturday the 16th of January and then the next one is not until the first Saturday in Feb. I will have plenty of hot soup, crostinis, and salad at market.
Back to the CSA---I will only be offering 15 full shares again.
Thanks
Joe

Well market today from 10-2pm at the Vermont College gym. This is going to be a tough one to call as far as attendance goes. Everyone may go skiing or are they just sick of spending money after the holidays. Should be interesting. Personally I would be skiing today but I am sure it's still going to be an overcrowded nut house on the hills. Plenty of greens harvested for today and some tasty soups ready to go as well. Last of the winter squash and some cabbbage coming to market also. A bit of Kale in the cooler but I think I will use it up in a soup. If you get by Red Hen bakery in middlesex be sure to try some of my soup. Joe
